Getting to San Juan

By Air

Getting to San Juan by air is easy because San Juan is the hub of the Caribbean. Therefore, you can rest assured that you won’t have to make flight connections anywhere else in the Caribbean to come to San Juan, which is very convenient and timesaving. Even better, if you are coming from United States, you won’t even have to worry about going through customs and standing in long lines to entry the island because Puerto Rico is a US territory, so it’s as easy as flying to another state. So from the gate you can go straight to pick up your bags and from there to the hotel. Isn’t that great? Where else in the Caribbean can you fly to as easy as that?

San Juan Airport: Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (LMM)

By Sea

Another option to get to San Juan that has become a very popular way to visit the city is by sea. This can be possible by going on a cruise ship. Interesting enough, the San Juan Port is one of the most visited cruise ports in the Caribbean and the second largest (after Miami) in the western hemisphere. Plus, it is the home port of many cruise ships that sail to other favorite destinations in the Caribbean from San Juan.

Some of the cruise lines that dock at the San Juan Port or call it home are:

  • Carnival
  • Royal Caribbean
  • Princess
  • Celebrity Cruises
  • Holland America
  • Norwegian

San Juan Cruise Terminals:

Old San Juan Piers 1-6: Conveniently located at Marina Street, these piers are within walking distance to everything in Old San Juan, including attractions, hotels and restaurants. There is no need to take a taxi when disembarking, unless you are heading to the beach, the resort area fo Condado and Isla Verde, or somewhere outside San Juan. The majority of the cruise ships dock at these piers (except the larger ones from Royal Caribbean).

Pan American Pier: This pier is located south of Old San Juan, in Miramar, by the Isla Grande Regional Airport and the Convention Center. Unfortunately, it is not within walking distance to Old San Juan or any other major area. You would need to take a taxi to get to your destination. There is hotel and casino (Sheraton Puerto Rico Convention Center Hotel & Casino) near this pier, convenient for travelers that spend a night prior to boarding their cruise. The Pan American Pier serves larger cruise ships from Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises and Princess Cruises.

Whether you decide to fly or take a cruise, getting to San Juan is easy and stress free. There are no excuses not to come to San Juan and explore the city. What are you waiting for?
